The emergence of social media (web-based services and tools for collaborating, sharing and managing information) has opened up exciting new possibilities for improving engagement, supporting collaboration and encouraging discussion.

This workshop - designed specifically for academics and researchers - will demonstrate current uses of social media in higher education and will include practical exercises to help you familiarise yourself with tools such as Delicious, Twitter, Wikipedia, RSS feeds and blogs.

The aim is to improve your social media skills and awareness, and to encourage you to think creatively about how these resources can be of use to you.

Who should attend?

You will find this workshop useful if you are an academic or a researcher interested in:

  • Raising your online profile
  • Increasing the reach of your work and citations to it
  • Better managing information through online resources
  • Improving your ability to collaborate using online tools
  • Using social media to engage researchers, policy makers, practitioners, funders, the media, the public.

The fee of £75 includes lunch and refreshments.
